Race tempo has played against Pane In The Glass on two occasions this campaign but trainer John Thompson is confident the filly’s time will come when it matters most on her home track this Saturday.
Pane In The Glass, a noted backmarker with a powerful finish, heads into the Group One Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick still on an upward spiral and ready to run the best race of her campaign in the final leg of the four-race Princess Series.
“She continues to thrive and I can’t wait to see her back at Randwick,” Thompson said.
Pane In The Glass, a dual Group One placegetter as a two-year-old at Randwick in the Sires’ Produce Stakes and Champagne Stakes, will be attempting to break through for a valuable first Group One success on Saturday.
The talented filly brought up her first stakes win when she powered home in the Group Three Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) first-up, before slowly-run races played against her in both the Group Two Furious Stakes (1400m) and Group Two Tea Rose Stakes (1500m).
Thompson was frustrated with the lack of tempo in the Furious and Tea Rose but maintained Pane In The Glass’ time would come.
“She’s got a big race win in her and hopefully that’s Saturday,” Thompson, who trains for Nathan Tinkler’s Patinack Farm, said.
“We’re hoping for more speed in the race. She has been running well but the way the races have been run have been to her disadvantage.
“Back over a mile at Randwick on Saturday, it’s a bit more testing, and I think that’s when she’ll come into her own.
“This is her grand final and she’s still on an upward spiral.”
Pane In The Glass came up with the inside gate when the final field of 11 was declared on Wednesday, while Furious Stakes and Tea Rose Stakes winner Streama came up with barrier 10.
Adding interest to the event will be Melbourne-based fillies Hallowell Belle and Tai Tai Tess who make their first appearances of this year’s Princess Series.
Star Singapore-based Brazilian jockey Joao Moreira will be back in Sydney to partner several of the Patinack Farm team including Pane In The Glass.
Moreira rode the filly in the Furious and also her last-start second to Streama in the Tea Rose.
Pane In The Glass is the $3.50 TAB Sportsbet favourite ahead of Streama at $4.40 and Hallowell Belle at $4.80.
